ds is 9mo and takes water from a cup really well, this week i've started giving him his daytime milk from his cup to which was 7oz at about 10am and 7oz at 3pm ish and then a 7oz bottle at 7pm but he doesn't take the full 7oz from a cup, what do people recommend? he takes about 3-4oz, was thinking about giving him a 7oz bottle first thing in morning but is this then just another bottle to faze out?? or will he adjust to having the full 7oz from a cup?

could people let me know how they've got rid of the bottle by 12mo?

I didnt even think about getting rid of the bottle until dd reached 1 year as by then their need for milk diminishes and I didnt have to worry so much about a drop in milk intake. From 1 year the minimum recommended is around 350mls (approx 12 ounces) compared with the 20 ounces up to 1 year.

Once dd was 12 months I swapped her morning bottle for a lidded cup of milk along with her breakfast. Only once she was taking a good amount of that did I swap her night time bottle as well. She was off bottles by 14 months with no fuss/fighting about it.

By all means start to give a drink of milk from a cup to get your lo used to it but dont get too worried over having to replace all bottle feeds with the cup just yet.

Dd got rid of bottles at 8 months - onto cups (lidded until 14 months) and we found that initially her milk consumption dipped (we're talking a couple of days max) when moving onto cup full time but after that she was back to normal 7oz. HTH

I don't want to replace all bottles just yet, i really like the night time bottle and a cuddle before ds goes to sleep just didn't want to do bottles in the day anymore, reassuring to hear no problems fazing bottles out at 12mo - prob will give morning and evening 7oz bottles and stick with cup in day, that plus milk/dairy will give him enough milk

thanks seona1973 x

posted at same time as you alexw! (slow typer)

milk consumption has been down all week thats why worried - he might need more time to adjust, maybe it'll get better? hmmm not sure quite what to do now - only decision is whether to introduce first thing in morning bottle to suppliment milk... he'll get used to that tho n drink less in day

ahhh prob worrying too much

Try not to worry (easier said than done) and up yoghurt and chees intake -your lo will adjust given time. We always gave bottle first thing and last thing and cupd in between from 4 months. When ditched bottles gave morning one a go with cup first as she was always hungriest then. By 9 months dd was on 7oz first thing, .4 oz after nap and 7 oz in eve (before bath) - MAX. With dairy rich diet things will be ok. HTH

cup first thing sounds good - tbh i put formula on his cereal this morning (bout 5-6oz) just to reassure myself he was getting enough!

appreciate post - thanks
