Water for 8 month BF DS?

My DS is happily eating 3 meals a day. I haven't been offering him water as his weight gain has slowed quite a bit, and he is feeding a couple of times at night, so wanted him to drink only BM so that he is taking more calories during the day. He doesn't seem to want any after his meals though and has cut his daytime feeds down due to the solids so I'm now a bit worried he's not getting enough fluids. What do you think, should I be offering him water with his meals?

I read somewhere that you should bf 1hour before you give them solids and offer sips of water with meals until they are 12mnths. Don't know if this is right - sorry!

Thanks lori, will try that as he isn't doing so many wet nappies as he used to before he started on solids and I don't want him dehydrated. The few times I have given him water in his sippy cup he seems to enjoy it, although I think it might be more something to chew on and less the actual drinking as LOADS seems to dribble straight out of his mouth!

i tend to bf just before breakfast, about an hour before lunch and tea and then she has a bf before bed (occ overnight as well). she's 7.5 mths. she too ties a sippy cup but it tends to just dribble out-she seems to enjoy trying though
