My kids are older, and were exclusively breastfed. The advice was to give finger foods at six months and (unsalted) portions of what we were having. This is before BabyLedWeaning became all the rage ;). Advice was milk was main food until a year. I don't know current guidelines.
I just let mine be, and although they started chewing, gnawing, tasting, enjoying, they didn't really eat much until about 7 1/2 months, and it only became substantial at about 9 months. They followed normal growth curves with this. It was all fine, honest!
