Is my baby ready for solids already?

My exclusively breastfeeding my
Baby. He's 5 months old on Tuesday.
Recently he's been watching me eat and moves his lips together while he sees us eat. He wants everything to put in his mouth. Does this mean he's ready for solids? I know they you shouldn't start a breastfed baby on solids until 6 months but I do feel bad when he's showing interest in me eating.

He's just watching you to learn what to do with food. No rush to start solids, the guidelines are based in research and imo it's lots more hassle than just milk, both of mine weren't interested at all until after 7 months so it felt like a massive waste of time, although all babies are different so yours might eat loads from the start of weaning.

He's just watching you eat - why would you feel bad? He's interested in everything people do.

If he starts grabbing food off your plate and shoving it in his mouth, then it's moved beyond casual interest Smile

He probably watches you talk on the phone/hang clothes out/cook too. Won't be ready for those things for a while yet either though. A couple of weeks now can have a big impact on long term health.
