A friend told me not to as they are hard for baby to digest. Recipe books seem to think it's OK though. Any experience/ advice gratefully received...

thought it was the opposite - they are easy to digest?! how old is your baby? i'd go for it

He's just over 5 months. He's only had baby rice so far and is hoovering it up!

i would give it a go. am sure my dd had banana v early on (she is 9 months and was weaned at 5 1/2 months), now it is one of her firm favourites good luck

banana was the first food I gave to my lo at 5.5 mths. He was fine

AitchTwoOh · 08/02/2007 23:44

i think they can cause constipation, so maybe that's what your friend was talking about?

colditz · 08/02/2007 23:47

Go easy on them, as they7 can cause a bit of constipation, so maybe not every day? Ds2 lives on them, but he is nearly 10 months old.

lemonaid · 08/02/2007 23:51

Agree on the constipatingness, so don't give them in large quantities every day, but in general they are fine.

I've never understood why people would give bananas so early as I can never them to a point where there are no lumps - can you puree a banana? My DS was pretty uncertain at first for that reason - he loves them now though. But I think there are lots of other things you could introduce first - root veg for a start, cooked apple and pear, etc.

nearlyfourbob · 09/02/2007 03:48

It's one of the first things I gave ds and he turned out to be allergic to them. Proving that nothing works for everyone.

kels666 · 09/02/2007 16:28

Ha, my lo's always get lumps very early!! stops them being fussy later on. No pureeing for me.

WigWamBam · 09/02/2007 16:31

They were the first taste of food dd had, and she loved it. I found it was easy to make them smooth enough just with a fork.

We didn't have any problems with constipation, although I know some babies do ... it makes their poo look very, very peculiar though
