spotting a wheat allergy??

ds 8 mo and dh has wheat allergy so told to hold off wheat till this age

just started this week and tbh not too sure what i'm looking for
with dh he gets bunged up head and runny poo (so tmi i know!)

so far ds nappies are fine and no runny nose/stuffiness but he keeps waking up crying after short sleep (only during day - still sleeps 7-7 ish through night) he did this whilst teeth came through last time so it could be teething...

just wondered if anyone elses babies had wheat allergy and how it presented itself

could i just get him allergy tested? seems cruel to experiment on him! especially when I have no idea!!

I'm semi-convinced my ds now has a wheat allergy (having initially been fine). Same deal, dh is wheat intolerant and I want to be careful.

It could be wind waking him up, indicating a mild intolerance, or as you say, could be teething.

I'd make sure he has wheat-free days and see whether you can notice any difference in his sleeping that day (or poss the day after).

what made you think he had wheat allergy?

calpol helped ds earlier so could be teething... worried it could give him colic, he didn't have colic as new born so not sure what it'd be like - would expect him to wake up at night though, right?

think you're right - only wheat free day/s comparison will probably tell

He gets a really dodgy tummy quite frequently, same as dh when he has wheat.

so far ds not the same as dh on wheat, unless waking is wind related...

will keep 'mointoring' him

thanks for your help

No probs - and hope he'll be fine. The other thing I do is make sure ds has a probiotic yoghurt every day, not sure if suitable for an 8 mo but probably as there are virtually no bits. He has these .

has been recommended to me before - has some before bed but objects as really tart compared to fromage frais - haven't tried Rachels organic tho - one for the shopping trolley

DS (12 mths) has a slight wheat allergy (amongst many others ) Whilst now he seems ok on small amounts of organic wheat (ie 1 portion every other day) when we first tried non-org wheat on weaning he used to get very windy with explosive nappies. He also developed a soya allergy which is apparently quite common (just so you are aware) Buckwheat, spelt, rice & rye are ok though. HTH
