What cup should a three year old be using now?

Apologies if I'm in the wrong section, hoping someone can offer me some advice. My DD (nearly four) still has a drink of milk in the mornings when she gets up and I wondering what kind of cup I should be using now for her as I think she's getting too old for the sippy cup! Can I ask you what you use at home? And while we are at it what do you use for your three - four year olds when you're out and about? Thank you in advance wise mumsnetters!

At 3 my DS was just using a normal cup or a bottle with inbuilt straw depending on which he wanted at the time. No reason not to use normal cup at 3

ScarletForYa · 28/06/2016 06:46

these

Normal (plastic) beaker. IKEA do good ones that are easy to hold. Or yes, a beaker with an inbuilt straw when you're out and about.

RatOnnaStick · 28/06/2016 06:46

We have a conglomeration of random plastic cups from Ikea, supermarkets, given as presents etc. They just accumulate somehow Confused.

Out and about we use a Sistema screw cap if I take anything. you can get them anywhere. They are more leak proof than most other bottles I have found.

DarlingCoffee · 28/06/2016 06:46

Thank you strawberry! I did think it was probably time for a normal cup just wondered if there was a further in between cup to go for!

My dd has a little tin mug that she uses for her 'tea' (warm milk, tiny splash of tea out of the pot) with her breakfast. She uses a plastic beaker the rest of the day for water.

Lovelydiscusfish · 28/06/2016 06:51

At this age I would think she could use a normal beaker (I.e. one without a lid)? Does she drink all drinks from the sippy cup, or just the milk?
I just take water for dd (just 4) out with us in a normal plastic bottle, as I do for myself. I did have a couple of those sports type bottles, but lost them (lose everything).

LetThereBeCupcakes · 28/06/2016 06:51

We still use a cup with straw for DS (tommy tippee do an insulated one which is handy in hot weather). TBH it's mostly because the dog would drink it in a normal cup! At nursery and other people's houses he drinks out of a normal cup.

DarlingCoffee · 28/06/2016 07:07

Hi lovely, no it's just her morning milk. The rest of the time she drinks water from a sports bottle beaker or bottle. I'm just thinking of the possible mess from a cup but I suspect I'm over thinking this! We now have a new DS so milk is all over our carpets anyway Hmm

At 3 kids are usually pouring their own drinks from a jug at pre-school!

We've been using normal plastic cups from 2, but still use tommee tippee if going on a car journey. Out and about she drinks from a normal bottle of water that I bring for myself, but needs help if it's heavy.

SouthDownsSunshine · 28/06/2016 07:21

At 2.5 dd uses a mix of normal cups or sippy cups. It tends to be a normal (plastic) cup at mealtimes, and sippy cup for out and about.

They soon learn not to make a mess.

insancerre · 28/06/2016 07:33

Our 2 year olds pour their own drinks from jugs at preschool.
They all use normal cups too

Quodlibet · 28/06/2016 07:36

Our 2.5 yr old uses small normal (as in glass or ceramic) cups, or some times small plastic ones if there's one about. No mess or accidents.

Archedbrowse · 28/06/2016 07:39

My just 3yr old used this munchkin miracle trainer cup, as I wanted to 'wean' her off relying on straws and spouts but still wanted something spill proof for out & about. I really like it.
At home she has the plastic IKEA beakers mentioned up thread.

If it's just for morning milk I would let definitely let her choose a 'grown up' mug (non breakable). My dd loves hers. She loves being like me and she is so careful because she knows I sit down and don't spill she copies.

RoganJosh · 28/06/2016 07:42

Milk we still do in a cup with a lid in case it gets spilt. All other drinks are in a normal cup.

Poppytime · 01/07/2016 19:29

Morning/evening milk we do in an open cup with 2 handles for almost 3 yo DD - it's like a soft silicone one but I think she would be happy with anything now. Took a while to get here though, 6 months or so ago I didn't think she would!

wobblywonderwoman · 01/07/2016 19:34

My nearly three year old tips it drinks and plays with it. He is getting more careful and hoping this stops when he goes to preschool. I still give him an occassional bottle at home.

neversleepagain · 01/07/2016 22:15

Mine are 4 soon and use melamine cups.

DarlingCoffee · 03/07/2016 16:16
