When can baby have bread sticks?

I've recently started introducing my 6.5mo to solids, mostly giving finger foods in a blw way. So far she's had fruit, veg and yoghurt. I've heard bread sticks are a goodd food to give. Can I just offer ordinary bread sticks? I'm a bit concerned about the salt content, so looked for baby specific ones. I found some called super yummies baby bread sticks. But they say suitable for 12+months. Why would this be? I checked the ingredients and there's no added sugar or salt. Do you think they'd be ok at 6 months?

I gave DD regular cheapo from b and m breadsticks from day one of weaning. She loved them.

Yep, go for it!!

I think the 12+ is based on the assumption that the baby will be weaned onto purées and won't be ready for chewable solids til later. I did blw with my DS so I would have given him a breadstick from 6m if the salt/sugar levels were OK. Someone with more knowledge may correct me about the labelling though

Super, that's what I thought. Bread sticks on the menu this week then!

DS2 is very partial to the Carluccios ones...

Luckystar1 · 18/06/2016 20:10

Jassy we spend an embarrassing amount of time in Carluccio's. To the extent that they bring us our 'usual'.

DS is a big fan of their macaroni cheese... I think it's good for him to get out... Blush

I give the normal ones to dc2 (6months). He doesn't have teeth yet so he just gums them a bit. They do make good dippers though.

JassyRadlett · 18/06/2016 20:15

Lucky, us too! It was one of the first restaurants DS1 (very picky eater) would reliably eat a meal. I love it for that reason alone.

Artandco · 18/06/2016 20:18

Normal ones here. They rarely eat the whole thing so it's fine

Luckystar1 · 18/06/2016 20:18

Jassy hahaha our DS too! What do they put in it?!

One day we had all of our meals there. God that was an embarrassing day...

GoldPlatedBacon · 19/06/2016 17:22

My dd has that brand of breadsticks. She's been eating them since 8 months.

Never Hmm

graysor · 21/06/2016 16:12

Why not baby nail?

I wouldn't give any wheat to under one year old, and they have absolutely no nutrition at all. Babies have tiny tummies so all food should be very nutrient dense. Remember to add proper butter or other good fats to veg etc.
