i live in spain and here they suggest starting weaning from 4 months.my dd is 21 weeks and i was told at the docs to start with a little gluten free baby cereal and a little pureed fruit.the doc stated that no sugar, no gluten, no this no that.i have been giving her a little bit of mashed up banana but have been looking into the pureed fruits in jars in the shops.they say suitable from 4 months but looking on the ingredients it states sugar as one.should i therefore avoid these even though it says suitable from 4 months? im taking the weaning thing slowly anyway as despite their advice i dont really think she seems ready as just tends to spit the whole lot out so i just leave it and try a little again the next day.any advice on this would be appreciated...there is so much contraversy over the whole thing its driving me crazy....should i? shouldnt i? can i? cant i? etc.....

I would really recommend waiting until 6 months you can do purree for a few days then offer finger food - it's much easier believe me........I have done it both ways whether they are good eaters or not is down to cirumstances and personality not when you wean them.

If you don't think she's ready just go back to milk only!

The manufacturers want to get as much money out of you as they can, which is why they say from 4 months. No food is really suitable from 4 months, as weaning shouldn't begin until 6, but certainly not things with added sugar or salt - they are totally unnecessary for babies and serve only to help them develop a taste for these things and thus potentially a lifetime of obesity, high blood pressure etc etc.

I'm not always a 'trust your instinct' kind of person, but in this instance your instinct is right.

You can always make your own babyfood, lots of fresh fruit and vegetables, mashed or purees

I never touched jars or packets, too much water and additives
