Hi everyone
I've been advised by a dietician to start early weaning due to slow weight gain.
Tonight was day two and he only seemed to get disgusted by us putting a spoon in his month and then his proceeded to hit and bash the bowl with his hands in the neocate spoon (similar to baby rice) - it went everywhere but his mouth!
Any stories of what to expect and when would be so appreciated, as well as any hints about how to get them eating and enjoying this strange new stuff called food!
Thank you

Sorry, just seen that you started this thread a few days ago. Hopefully he's doing better now!

Was it a hospital paediatrician that advised this? We were advised by ours to early wean at 5 months due to weight gain issues, reflux, refusal to take more milk etc.

We started on veg (puréed or steamed sticks) for months 5-6 plus a bit of baby rice which weren't so calorific but she became used to tasting and experimenting with food so from 6 months we were much quicker at moving onto full meals than we would have been otherwise.

We included starchy veg like sweet potato and calorific like avocado. We did pre-loaded spoons for the purées rather than trying to feed her.

Once she reached the appropriate age, I made lots of milk/egg puddings, added butter and cheese to things etc.

Now she is a toddler we have no weight issues at all and she eats normal family foods.

I would also worry if weight gain is a concern, as formula has more calories than food, surely? Hospital dieticians should know what they're talking about though! I presume he has a cmp issue, hence the neocate? Do they suspect other protein intolerances? Poor little guy. Thanks

Hi Op, had a similar issue with DS1 and weaned at 17weeks. I started him on fairly thin Aptamil baby porridge made with formula so plenty of calories. It took a little while for him to get the hang of spoon feeding but he soon caught on and started really enjoying his food and putting on weight.
