DD is 6 months and we have been weaning for 10 days. She was exclusively bf before with daily bottle of ebm. She is big (nearly 20 lbs and on 98th centile), and although I know she is healthy I do not want her to actually get fat...have read that this is linked to be being fat and unhealthy later in life. At the same time as weaning we have put her on to formula during the day as i have started work again. Routine ATM is:

0730 breastfeed
1030ish baby rice mixed with formula plus water/juice
1130ish 5ozs formula
230ish 5ozs formula
430ish pureed veg or fruit plus water/juice
630ish 10ozs mixed ebm and formula
1030ish 5 min breastfeed (dreamfeed)

I know she is supposed to have roughly 20 ozs milk a day, but how much food?? On the routine above she polishes off every drop of every food or milk offered and whinges for more...however still sleeping through so can't be hungry?? We are giving 4 heaped teaspoons of babyrice and 3 icecubes of fruit/veg puree. Should we give more food or will she turn into the Goodyear blimp/!!

Realise in the big scheme of things this isn't a major hassle, but just looking for ideas/advice. Thanks!!

strewth .. please please please don't worry about fat .. she needs calories and should eat until she doesn't want more imo

I'd start giving her batons of vegetable and chopped fruit and let her try to feed herself too

a good guide I suppose would be to buy a 6 mth jar ... organix is good .. and see how much food they have in ... remember some people give a pudding too

Babies only really eat what they want, unlike their Mummies who eat for all sorts of reasons (stress of weaning being one!)

Go with what Twiglet says, give her lots of things to play/self-feed with and however much food she will take, she will eat what she wants and leave anything else. As long as you aren't weaning her on chocolate and crisps she won't get fat

FWIW I found weaning DD quite hard going but DS (No 2 baby) just had to get on with it
