Near choke

My 11 month old baby just choked on a piece of cucumber. It was horrible and he only got it up just as I was about to start first aid.

I thought babies were meant to start eating more 'normal' foods at this age, am I wrong?

Can you describe what happened? Did he choke or gag? Is he new to finger foods?

It wasn't a gag, went bright red and waved arms about struggling then did a massive cough and it shot out across the table

No has had lots of finger foods before such a bread, crumpets, potato wedges avocado etc. but its the first time with a harder piece of veg I guess. Maybe I did them the wrong shape as they weren't long and thin.

My dd is 10 months. She has finger food every day but there are some foods she seems to be struggling with and we've had a couple of choking incidents. Cucumber is one of them, I find she is better if I cut it into large Wedges rather than slices or batons. Sweetcorn is also a problem for her.

(large enough that she needs to use two hands to hold it)
