i think they're a no-no, in the same way as eggs are.

PinkTulips · 12/01/2007 13:57

thought so but wasn't sure... have some nice ones in the fridge for dd and thought i might try him on one

(he's accidently had egg as he stole some food off my plate that had eggs in it and i didn't remember til too late )

My twins have had egg since 6 months and just about everything else - including most berry fruits. I understand the need to be careful if you have a family history of allergies but otherwise all these restrictions do seem overly cautious. Maybe I'm just a dreadful mother! I tend to just throw at them whatever we've had for dinner the night before .

I'm fairly certain that it is only if you have allergies in the family. I think if they're going to be allergic to strawberries they get a rash around the mouth pretty quickly.

I could be totally wrong about that though...

I'm still trying to pluck up courage to give ds some egg. He had some accidentally at 9 months (stole my pasta carbonara)and threw up copiously afterwards. Dd used to throw up after eggs too. She is fine now. I think I'll give him egg for breakfast when dh is here at the weekend ... Perhaps before getting him dressed ...

í used give dd kiwi for breakfast every morning from 4 months plus as i didn't even realise she shouldn't have it lol.

lol fruitful.... imo breakfast is always best given before getting dressed with babies, whether they throw up or not!

I had no idea about the strawberry thing and gave ds strawberry yoghurt about about 5-6? months. He ended up with a red rash around his mouth. Tried spasmodically with a teaspooon or two full after that and I think around age of 2 he stopped getting the red rash and doesn't appear to suffer any ill effects from eating straight strawberries. We don't have any strawberry allergies in either of our families.

fishie · 12/01/2007 15:02

ds has been eating huge amounts of strawbs since about 7m. i hadn't heard of avoiding them before 1, which was v bad of me since my mum is allergic to them. what i mean is, it should be fine.

CanStarveWillStarve · 12/01/2007 20:58

No strawberries aren't on the 'not before 1' list.
Neither are eggs.
Neither is kiwi.

PinkTulips · 13/01/2007 12:23

excellant

you're sure about that? if so i can give him some later and see what he thinks.

(also makes me feel alot less guilty about dd having all 3 before 1 )
