Lots of my friends seem to be obsessed with sugar and I can't help but feel I'm being frowned upon for giving DD petits filous. She has one a day, at lunchtime and nothing else she eats has added sugar as I make pretty much everything myself. I know she shouldn't be having loads of sugar but I don't want to be one of those sugar police mums who completely bans it. I mentioned it to my HV and she wasn't concerned just feel like I'm being a bad mum for letting her have them Confused

There are more than 2 teaspoons of sugar in an apple.

I know there are other fundamental differences between the two, but these little graphic representations can often be misleading. Petit Filous and other yoghurt products have at least as many beneficial nutrients in (vit D and calcium to name just two) as an apple - it's not just a heap of sugar - and sure, you can opt for the least sugary option wherever possible if you wish, but everyone draws the line as they see fit. I'm not going to sit my baby down with a handful of Haribo but I'm happy with a fruity yoghurt or two a day.

If the rest of their diet is fine then I don't see it as a problem at all.

I've seen many children through my line of work drinking fizzy Coke from a baby bottle and having chocolates, biscuits and cake every day. I can't get worked up over giving mine a yougurt every day. Fruit is full of sugar but the nutritional benefits outweigh that. That to me is saying that sugar in moderation isn't harmful.

I've tried plain fromage frais with fruit purée but she was having none of it. Got some Greek yoghurt so will see how that goes down Hmm
In the meantime munch bunch do reduced sugar ones.

Ha... Look what popped up on the bottom of the thread, a low in sugar variety!

FWIW I was obsessed with not giving DS any sugar when I started weaning. All good was from scratch, Greek yoghurt only with homemade fruit purees.
He is now 12 months and frankly I couldn't give a shit wether he has a petit filous a day. He is very skinny (2nd centile) so I would rather he eat something than nothing.
