I'm looking to start baby led weaning in the next month with my son.

What was the first thing your baby ate? I'm not sure what to start with. He will be 5.5-6m.

Broccoli. She loved it and still does. Day two was cucumber which she still won't touch

Thatrabbittrickedme · 15/03/2016 22:33

Pineapple - on a beach in Mauritius, DD was 4 months old and I bought one off a lady on the beach who carved it so you could eat it like a lollipop. DD launched herself at it with a huge grin on her face Smile

BeeMyBaby · 15/03/2016 22:37

Homemade pizza- DH fed it to dd2 whilst I was in the bathroom Shock

FoodPorn · 08/04/2016 10:17

Spinach pancakes for both of mine Smile

JiltedJohnsJulie · 08/04/2016 17:55

Ham sandwich which she snatched and scoffed at 23 weeks. She seemed to want to display the signs of readiness Smile

A banana Grin

Artandco · 08/04/2016 17:59

Watermelon in Dubai. A large 1/4 of one, was bigger than them. They obviously only actually ate a little bit
The next day Dh started him on lamb tagine..

BikeRunSki · 08/04/2016 17:59

At 26 weeks DS ignored a blueberry. 2 days later he grabbed a crusty granary tuna baguette out of my hand and chomped on that.

DD's first food was a rice cake.

sophiaslullaby · 18/04/2016 13:43

DH's banana sandwich - DS was looking at it hungrily so DH jokingly offered it, didn't expect baby to clamp down on it with gusto!

Properly, it was carrot puree a couple of days later (well he was obviously ready to wean - 5months).

Chip stolen from a friend's plate Grin

Koopz · 18/04/2016 13:47

A scotch pancake stolen from my hand. We did a mixture of BLW and feeding as he was very messy and very hungry so kept missing out.

StrumpersPlunkett · 18/04/2016 13:47

Was supposed to be soft steamed apples but MiL gave him a Chinese pork dumpling without asking me. After counting to 26789 I realised it was actually fine.

JasperDamerel · 18/04/2016 13:48

A receipt from Waterstones. And around a fortnight later, some beef stew. I just stopped using salt in the food I ate and sat the DC on my lap and let them eat from my plate until they were eating enough to need a plate of their own.

Spudlet · 02/05/2016 09:41

A Debenhams receipt. I gave it to him to keep him occupied while I changed his nappy in a restaurant loo, then just as I got the old one off he started poohing everywhere Shock and by the time I'd stemmed the flow and cleaned up, the receipt was thoroughly gummed Blush. He was only 3 months old! I
He's not had anything else yet though as he's still too young.

cityrat79 · 02/05/2016 11:17

Paper from a straw in a restaurant I gave her to play with. Then, while I was cooking, I gave her a raw potato to play with... and she took a bite of that. Parenting fail.

A couple of weeks later she stole a crust from my plate and we never looked back!

Iguessyourestuckwithme · 02/05/2016 11:19

DC1 Avocado
DC2 Sweetpotato

Lightbulbon · 02/05/2016 11:21

Baby rice- I thought this was most babies first food?

Just for the first week then pears and gentle veg like sweet potatoes and butternut squash.

Cliffdiver · 02/05/2016 11:36

DD1 - apart from sucking DH's chocolate biscuit when she was a couple of months, she had baby rice made with bm.

DD2 - mashed sweet potato.

Did a mix of spoon feeding and BLW with both.

DD1 ate excellently being spoon fed but was more picky when feeding herself and is still not very good at eating fruit and veg served on its own, so I regret not serving her more veg on its own when she was weaning. She was a terrible sleeper and the HV told me to feed her loads of carbs to help her sleep Hmm

itsmeyouknow · 14/05/2016 12:42

Asparagus - couldn't believe it.

MooseAndSquirrel · 14/05/2016 12:48

Honestly, DD2 was a dog biscuit she nicked - had a good old chomp on it too before I noticed. But the answer I give in real life is cauliflower mush!
I was obviously a better parent the first time round as DD1s first taste was pear mush
