Hello, i've just started by nearly 6 month old DS on baby rice once a day (BF only until now) but need some help!
He's taken it really well and doesn't spit any out on purpose so feel he's definately ready. Any advice though on when i should start giving him more, or how often, or what foods to try? Haven't really got a clue what to do next.
Worried about giving him too much and upsetting his tummy but he's quite a big boy so don't want to starve or deprieve him either!!

either go the baby led weaning route (which i am not an expert in) and offer steamed veggies, finger foods etc ... i offered DS pureed pear (didn't bother with baby rice), butternut squash, parsnip ... try each for around 3 days so you can see if there is a reaction ... try giving at the 11.00 am feed so if there is a reaction it isn;t at 3.00 am. I feed my DS until he stops being interested ie turns away/doesn't open mouth etc .... be led my your LO ....

i'm doing blw with my 7 months old. very straightforward. babyledweaning.com is very helpful, it's a blog done by a mumsnetter called aitch. also look at any other threads on here about it, there are lots in the weaning section. there aren't any particular books about it as there isn't really a method to it. it's just finger food basically.

Ditto to what taylormama said. So far I've offered pureed pear, apple, carrot, sweet potato and courgette. I've mixed some of these with baby rice to bulk them up a bit. DS hated baby rice on it's own. I started him a bit early for various reasons so I've been very conservative in the amounts I've offered - he's cleaned the bowl on all but one occasion. I would advise a particular book but I can't say which.
