Is any body else scared to give their baby food because they try and shove it all down their throat? how do you prevent choking? Am I just being paronoid? my hubby is to afraid to give him food also. Anyway my bub is almost 7 months now sorry not 6 (where does the time go?) and he is a big boy, tall as well as chubby, he has 4 240mL bottles per day is that alot? Is it too much? thats almost a litre per day. I've been a bit slack on the food front cause i'm a terrible cook and he won't eat and jar foods and like i said before i'm to scared he'll choke if i just give finger food to him but he will happily eat three meals a day if i give them to him plus the four bottles... please help i'm a first time mum and a bit in the dark

i happily give my DS finger foods but stay with him while he eats just in case i have to dislodge anything. TBH he copes well with most food - bread and butter, toast, rice cakes, cucumber, steamed veggies like broccoli and carrot ... he has managed cheese sarnies at nursery too and some fruit.

I think we all worry about choking that is natural that is why you should stay with your LO when he eats

When solids are established then his milk intake will drop but milk should be their main food for a while longer anyway ....

My local doctors did a one off first aid session about choking and resuss which I found so reassuring. Have had to put ds over my knee and whack him on the back so was so glad I did the course. Perhaps you could look for something like that to reassure yourself, I expect St John's Ambulance do them too.
