DS refuses to drink from a beaker/cup

He's 8 months old. Weaning is going pretty well food-wise, but he is now refusing to drink from his doidy cups. He just screws up his face, turns his head away and whinges whenever I pick it up. We've tried him on other kinds with spouts and handles but he just wants to chew on them. He's fine drinking from his bottles though.

Should I just persevere? Does it matter all that much at this point? Any magic solutions?

I wouldn't overly fret about it at the moment. I think we aimed to switch to cups by 1 year, but it took a heck of a lot of trial and error with different cups, beakers etc. Cost me a bloody fortune!

Agree, don't fret but have you tried a straw?

My son has just turned two and has only just started using beakers, he has used the nuby grip and sip ones for a few months though. I wouldn't push it, they do it when they are ready. I would say my son is very finickle about different textures and materials and whatnot and I think that's why he didn't want a hard plastic beaker to drink from

I have not tried a straw, but I will! Assuming he doesn't just gum at it Grin

All the questions they ask at baby clinic - it's amazing how insecure HVs can make you, isn't it? Will deffo chill out about it!

Have you tried using Babycup? My dd absolutely loved these little cups.

FellOutOfBedTwice · 15/03/2016 13:53

You want one of these. I had brought eight variations on sippy/straw cups until I found this when she was ten months old. She loves it.
