10 month old won't eat!

Help please!
My 10 month old has started refusing food from a spoon but only for lunch and dinner. He is fine with breakfast. He eats finger food well but his main food is from a spoon.
I was wondering if he wants to feed himself now which begs the question how will he feed himself wet food?
I know he likes the food as he's had it plenty of times before but now gags and is sometimes sick!
Any advice would be gratefully received thanks X

I have a 10 month old who has never eaten off a spoon held by someone else. (grr) Basically I load the spoon, hand it to him and he eats off it. It makes a lot of mess but at least he eats something (he's not a massive eater).

my 6.75 month old did this to me.
She refused solids until she was 6.5 months old and was having 20+ breastfeeds a day. It took me 4 days of horrible crying, where I only breastfed her every 4 hours and offered purees at mealtimes. A week of purees and she decided she didnt want them anymore. She would only eat what she could feed herself. AT 10 months old you have so many more options than I did for her. I fed her lots of toast, hard boiled egg, cheddar cheese, veg sticks of all descriptions, chunks of chicken meat etc.

At 8.5 months, at a formal dinner party, i gave her a hunk of seekh kebab, as she wouldnt eat anything else. I was a little at the end of my tether

He won't hold the spoon so ended up rolling his fish pie into balls on his tray. He wouldn't eat that but ate the fish fingers I made for him.
His just turned fussy all of a sudden he used to eat everything

Hi Greenlanegal, Thank you for posting as I am currently going though the same thing as you did. My 10 month old now gags at most food which he never did before. He too has seem to turn fussy.
How long did it take to get past this stage?

In going through exactly the sane with my almost 10 month old. He used to eat anything and loads of it. Past few days he's been spitting out what he has previously liked and only eating breakfast, yoghurt or crumpets. Not sure what to do?

Hi Summerdays2014, after reading a few forums it sounds quite common for 10 month olds to go through this stage. Most mums just say not to worry. Which I know is not easy! Also for peace of mind maybe keeping a food diary just so you can see that they are at least getting enough food from the milk and small amounts they do eat. I keep forgetting to write it down so stress myself out more! My boy only eats Weetabix and toast at home but does sometimes eat the food at nursery, sometime not also! I have found the whole process of weaning very stressful.
Other messages have said to try not eating in the high chair, maybe on the floor where they play. That has not really worked for me but it has worked for others. I find that he eats when he wants, which is nothing like he used to but still at least he isn't staring.
I believe that he also doesn't need as much food as all the books tell you they need at this stage. He is only small, he doesn't need 3 meals a day plus desserts and snacks! Sounds like a lot to me. I have decided if I can get him to eat 2 meals (no desserts, no snacks) and some milk, I am happy.

I've been back and forth to the GP with my dd who gags and vomits. It started at around 10 months. It's taken until she was 15 months to realise that she gags and vomits much less frequently (usually not at all) if her portions are fairly small - tablespoon of mash, another for meat and two of veg for example is plenty for her.

I recall at 10 months wondering how on earth to fit 3 meals plus 2 snacks plus milk and in hindsight she just didn't need all of that. She was being sick because I was over feeding her. I'm actually really embarrassed about this. She does also have few issues with constipation which is exacerbating the situation but smaller portions is helping managing the situation.

My dd is the same in that she gobbles up breakfast fine, it's lunch, Snack and dinner which is the issue but if say lunch is at 12, snack 3, dinner 5, plus milk somewhere during that timescale those large meals are actually quite close together.

With regards to wet food. Dd just uses her hands. I give her a spoon but she just holds it. Hands are quicker.

Infant and toddler forum is useful for portion Size.
