weaning reflux/colicky baby and goat's milk

I'd really like some advice. My dd2 is now nearly 7 months. She was bfed for the first 6m but suffered unbelievably bad colic (propped up on me at night to sleep and up to 12 hrs crying during the day. I had a v restricted diet which did improve things. Things were seeming alot better and because she grew teeth (and I really needed to get dh involved) I've started to wean. Tried aptamil and hipp organic and now the nights definitely are worse with her screaming and arching in pain about 5 hours after going to bed then up and down for rest of night (despite feeds/comfort. Also on solids and again things seemed ok but was wondering about goat's milk..am v worried by the doh warnings. Should I try something else first? I am guessing it is reflux that is the problem- she's propped up at night and I try to leave some time before putting her to bed at night
My dd1 was so easy in comparison-I feel as though I have learnt nothing and it's all so difficult-makes me want to cry

You may not be able to get Goats milk formula for much longer (it is being withdrawn in March iirc , postponed from September)Presumably reestablishing bfeeding for the time being isn't an option ?

Had felt quite liberated at idea of stopping (has been v v limited diet for me) but the alternative is worse reflux so I think I may have to re-start..does anyone have any experience of goat's milk and reflux?-worth a try?

Maisie - have you tried the thicker formula to stop the reflux?? I think SMA's is called staydown and Cow and Gate do Omneo Comfort (follow-on milk is still seen as waste of money)

My son has severe reflux (know all about the sleeping on me in the propped position - am still doing it in the day purely out of habit for him) he is on a pharmacy only formula called Enfamil AR which we get on prescription but before that we did do the thickened formula and Omeno Comfort was good (just not good enough for my son)

Paediatricians recommend trying a new formula for 2 weeks. I know it seems like you are just trying one after the other and watching her suffer but see if the Omneo works.

she completely refuses goats milk so at least that one is solved..can't believe you have to give it 2 weeks for each..
when can I hope for things to get a little easier? (actually don't answer this if it could be a long time-am still optimistic that I will wake up one morning to find she has slept through....)

have you had a diagnosis of reflux and any medication..liek infant gaviscon or domperidone?

Maisiemouse · 22/12/2006 09:25

not had a diagnosis but all seems to fit in..GP prescribed gaviscon but that has not really helped. I think I may need to go back to bfeeding for a while then try formula again. She did seem a bit better a few weeks ago before I started weaning to food and formula but tbh I have lost track a bit (v tired now)
