Any reason I can't give DD3 the water from cooking veges to drink?

She won't take any other fluids apart from milk (which we can dilute a bit). She is starting to get a bit constipated so desperately want to get some clear fluids into her. She loves carrot & florets so thought I would keep some of the water I cook them in (unsalted of course) and try to see if she will drink it. Am I mad?

No, not mad, in fact, that's just vegetable broth...

What is the problem?, how old is she?

LemonTart · 07/12/2006 20:11

My sister does this. Personally when she told me my initial reaction was "EEEUGH!" Her HV recommended it so I guess it has to be ok. Although I wonder about the vit. and mineral content being that great as most are destroyed quickly with heat. Still, better than constipation..(Her DSis 1 yr)

Wouldn't fancy it myself but don't see why it would be a problem. How old is she? Have you tried prunes or prune juice? They work wonders...

mamama · 07/12/2006 20:14

Also pears/ pear juice, plums and peaches have the same effect as prunes.

It will certainly add a bit of flavour to plain old water, wouldnt fancy it myself but when i am aware of the wonders of pinot why would i?
Go for it and remember to let us know what she thinks...........

Shes 7m. Not worried about vit content as it is only an alternative to water.

In the long term I just want to get her to take a non-milk fluid. In the short term increased fluid to help prevent full on constipation.

Thanks as ds drinks like a fish but refuses water, so this could be worth a try for me too as dont really want to continue with the 800 gallons of baby juice a day! Could just dive right in and try it but i will let you do a trial run on your dd first!!

Lots of vitamins, I say go for it
