Ds is only 4 months but I'm starting to think about how I'm going to wean when the time comes in a couple of months (he's nowhere near ready yet). Can anybody please recommend a website or a book or something, just as a starting point? I really don't know when or what or how!

Thank you

Well the MN page is a good place to start:

www.mumsnet.com/babies/weaning

Also the NHS page:

www.nhs.uk/conditions/pregnancy-and-baby/pages/solid-foods-weaning.aspx

If you're interested in doing baby-led weaning, then you could have a look at the book of the same name by Gill Rapley. There is also a baby led weaning website:

www.babyledweaning.com

If you're thinking of doing spoon feeding then there are lots of books, Annabel Karmel is the big name that seems to be popular.

The basic idea is that from 6 months you can give anything apart from honey (infant botulism risk) or choking hazards like whole nuts/grapes or chunks of hard carrot/apple and the like. Before 6 months you should only give fruit/veg or baby rice. Salt levels should be 1g a day (on average), so just keep an eye on that.

In our area the HVs run a weaning workshop once a month where they cover BLW and purée approaches, tell you the current guidelines and answer questions. Maybe call your HV to see if they do anything like that where you are. I found it useful for a general overview but also liked the Gill rapley book too and lots of googling :-)
