I had to start ds on solids today when I really didn't want to

He's 23 weeks old.

I really wanted to wait till six months, but he has to take this medicine now for his chest that comes in granules only which can only be given mixed in with food, they won't dissolve in liquids.

So I gave him a few spoonfuls of pureed pear.
He loved it!

I hope this won't do him any harm...

oh Emkana PLEASE don't worry

You are doing The Right Thing without a single doubt!

Glad he liked it! Would have been a bugger if he'd refused it all!

Miaou · 29/11/2006 20:17

No it won't harm him, emkana, I'm sure it won't.

Babies were weaned at 16 weeks as a matter of course for so long, and at 23 weeks your ds is only a couple of weeks away from the six month milestone.

Don't worry about it, really

emkana · 29/11/2006 22:17

Thank you.

I just don't like it that it's sort of forced on me by circumstances.

Tbh it didn't feel like feeding him food today, just like feeding him another medicine.

Wow! i can't believe he's 23 weeks already! I agree with the others though, that 3 weeks off 6 months is fairly incidental. I am sorry that you feel you've been forced into it, though.

He's okay, gaining well and very smiley, but lots of chest problems unfortunately!

Thanks for asking!

I'd have done exactly what you did today, Emkana. And you know how I feel about early weaning

Just tell me one thing...it wasn't a Superdrug spoon, was it?

tribpot · 29/11/2006 22:42

Pureed pear is about the mildest thing you could have given him and still meet the need to dissolve his medicine in some food. He'll be grand!

emkana · 29/11/2006 22:45

hunker

I did go all daft and bought a stupid cutsey winnie the pooh bowl thingy in Tesco's

Because of course after two dd's I don't already have about 75 assorted silly plastic bowls in the cupboard.

Early weaning is fine if Winnie the Pooh bowls are involved. Tis the rule.

23 weeks is very nearly six months anyway, am sure he'll be fine!

tissy · 30/11/2006 09:30

pear is one of the least allergenic things you could have given him, so no reason why he shouldn't be fine. (I seem to recall that when people are put on "exclusion" diets to try and work out what they're allergic to, about the only things they're allowed are pear and lamb!).
