Milk, Juice and other worries

Please I need some guidance:
FunkyDude is now 12 months old and since Monday I've tried to introduce cow's milk, I've tried to give it to him straight, he refused, I then replaced 1 oz of his formula, he refused, I persevered until today with the 1 oz replaced as I figured, if he gets thirsty he will drink...guess what...he still refuses the milk, I gave him formula straight this afternoon, but I think either he is not trusting the situation or he is going off his milk. He does eat it in his food. Can anyone offer advise or experience on this issue;

Secondly what if I can't get him to drink milk again, will I have to supplement him? I have some conflicting information in terms of how much milk. Some sources say 1 pint a day including in food preparation, others say only half a pint is necessary, does anyone actually know the requirements, or am I paranoid and should I chill and just go with the flow.

Thirdly, he has never taken to juice, but he had some "full strength" orange juice this morning, only about 5 sips, but I'm in the dark about why we need to dilute it?

Please help.

Don't worry about milk - does he eat yoghurt, cheese, etc? DS1 occasionally drinks milk, but is a yog/cheese fiend, so I don't worry about milk intake and never have.

Juice - don't bother with it. If he doesn't like it, it's no loss to his diet. Don't give it undiluted because it will rot his teeth.

Water's fine.

Thanks, I've figured that milk is probably the sure way of getting the required calcium per day, but cheese and yogurt will do the same.

So the juice thing is about teeth more than anything else?

my DS2 never really drank milk after I stopped b/feeding him. he's 3 no and will drink 2 small beakers a day but didn't drink any at first. I did the yopugurt and cheese thing and he's fine.

Would agree with hunker on the juice front - no need for it and water is fine (and doesn't rot their teeth!)

Juice is about teeth, too much sugar in general, and getting a taste for sweetened drinks when water does the job just as well.

If he's reluctant to take cow's milk but is still happy enough to take formula, I'd leave him on formula for now and try cow's milk again in a few weeks time. He's still only very little and there's plenty of time to get him used to cow's milk.

Juice is also fairly empty calories - and if they get a taste for it, they can fill up on it and not eat food as well.
