Sick 8mo just on milk

This is probably a very daft question but I've no experience of babies and children so excuse me! My DS 8mo has a nasty cold and has refused all food since Saturday lunchtime. I've been giving him breast and bottle feeds whenever he seems hungry, but is this okay? I tried making him some chicken broth but he's not at all interested been bubbling away all day grr He did have some rice pudding, but then that's his favourite thing anyway Grin
Will he just go back to eating solid food normally when he feels better? He's usually a very big eater and is on 3 good meals a day and around 2/3 milk feeds.

I'm sure he will gradually when the cold clears. I would continue to offer as before. Smile

If you're still bfing, this absolutely the best thing for him. Just like adults, babies go off their food when they are unwell. Milk provides the perfect balance of fluids and nutrition. Absolutely fine. As long as he's taking fluids, you can expect him to go back to eating when he feels better.

Thanks both! It's a little like having a newborn again, feeding so often and getting no sleep! I'll carry on offering food and giving him milk and water until he feels better. It's good to know he should go straight back onto food when he feels better.

It might take a few days after he seems better for him to go back to solids properly. Mine at least seemed to forget about food a bit and it took a couple of days before they were back to normal volumes. Best thing is not to stress, cook as you normally would and let him take the lead in terms of amounts

Thanks Free :) it's so miserable when they're poorly!

Absolutely fine and can happen for a good while yet.

My DS went back to 5 bottles of milk a day at the age of 18 months for over a week when suffering a nasty case of hand foot & mouth disease. Did him no harm and was back to eating normally when he felt better
