finger food - bread/toast

Sorry if my question sounds silly. Want to give DD (6,5months) finger foods and was thinking of giving bread/toast. As I don't eat bread myself I have no idea what kind of bread is good. Just white one? Or any others are better? Or it doesn't really matter? And should I put butter on it? Sorry if this is very obvious for everybody but i just don't have any idea!
TIA

white bread turns to a soft lump like playdoh in their mouth if you aren't careful.
Toast is easier for them to manage, or crusts of fresh bread.
Butter is up to you, but I don't bother.

Jelley's right, crusts and toast are good because there's a bit more to chew. i sometimes put butter on, but if you're out and about then a drizzle of olive oil (if you're in an italian place and there's some hanging around, i mean) or nothing at all is cleaner...
