DS, 6 months starts nursery in a couple of weeks and has to take prepared food. I'm trying baby led weaning, but can't cook. Today I messed up steamed broccoli and sweet potato (went to mush). What foods (single foods, not recipes) can be chopped /cooked ready to eat and packed up without going horrible and brown before mealtimes? E.g. Is there a way of getting avocado to keep once chopped? Will steamed sweet potato be OK if I make it the night before?

Add lemon juice to avocado. Steamed sweet potato's fine kept in the fridge overnight. I always made DS's packed lunches the night before, I don't understand why anyone does it in the morning! I have myself and 2 DC to get ready, breakfast to make, someone has the inevitable tantrum...

Strawberries and blueberries - no need to chop or cook
Baby courgettes - no need to skin or chop
Baby corn
Strips of chicken
Fusilli
Cheese, chopped into sticks

Use soft "danish" bread and make cream cheese or egg mayo butties.
