6 month old going off milk?!? help

I starred weaning about a month ago and now my daughter doesn't want and milk. its a struggle. She screams the place down every time I go near her with a bottle. The only time she'll take it is when she really tired lying in her bed. Has anyone has this?

Watching with interest - going through similar with 7.5 month old DS, it's exhausting.

Does she drink water? Take vitamins and eat other dairy? If so I wouldn't worry, and it's normal to go off the bottle when there are new things on offer. Have you tried offering it in a cup?

She does drink water not a lot though. she not to keen on dairy so I'm not sure what to do about that. I might try giving her it in a cup hopefully that would work. What vitamins can I give her? I didnt know you could give them vitamins Confused

Yes, NHS advice is to give vitamins from 6 months unless they're having at least 500ml of formula per day. We used Abidec drops but I've read some posts saying they got Healthy Start ones through their HV which I think are cheap or free if you qualify for Healthy Start. There's also WellKid ones.

I'm going to try a supply cup tomorrow and have a look for the vitamins. I'll keep you all posted. Thanks for the advice

Same thing here. I'm at my wits end. 7mo DS is getting nowhere NEAR the recommended 20oz milk a day. He refused his evening bottle yesterday (having taken a max of 10oz all day) and after an exhausting and tearful hour for both of us, he went to sleep without it. He had 2oz this morning and then it started all over again...him screaming, mouth shut tight and pushing it away.

I've tried numerous sippy cups to no avail. Just coming to the conclusion that he does not like the milk anymore. I'm trying to add cows milk/ water to any solid food but I'm trying to introduce lumpy/ textured foods at this stage so making everything more liquid isn't going to help that.

Is it ok to only get solid food and water and cut out milk at this stage?? Should I try a different formula?

I would LOVE to hear from someone who has been through this and come out the other side

My daughter didn't take it from the dippy cup like I hoped. Anymore tips from anyone would be much appreciated. Im picking up vitamins tonight for her. the health visitor Said to try and sneak it in the food so she had porridge with her formula in it and she had a yoghurt with her lunch. I'm hoping she takes a bigger bottle tonight. At the end of the day i can't force her to have milk so I'll just have to get more calcium filled foods in her

Cutting down on milk is a normal part of weaning. The recommended 20oz can include all sources of dairy... And a small (eg mini) pot of yoghurt = 2oz milk, and cheese = a lot more than the fluid equivalent in milk, if that makes sense! DD has 12oz or so a day in milk but also eats a lot of dairy so I'm not worried. She's a little older (9 months) but dropped right back at 7 months.

Does your daughter suffer from eczema, reflux, or green poo? My daughter started refusing milk at 5 months and it was a cows milk intolerance and reflux. I had an absolute nightmare and had to distract her with toys etc to get milk down her

She has reflux but its under control She's had renitadine (sp? ) since she was 11 weeks. But I feel I've tried everything now. She refused milk in a sippy cup but she's recently stared to like yogurts. But I still worry its not enough. What else contains calcium that's not cheese milk or yoghurt? Probably sounds really dumb Blush But every little helps

Deborah I have a list from dietician on calcium rich foods due to cows milk intolerance but hovis 50/50 bread is fortified with calcium. Prawns have some in, pitta bread, that's off top my head.

I'm feeling a little sleep deprived so forgive me if I have missed something amongst the replies you have received. My little girl STOPPED drinking milk at approximately 5 months old. She would not allow a single drop to pass her lips. I spent many days and nights in tears, pouring over the internet for advice worried sick that she would end up malnourished due to lack of calcium and iron. To make matters worse she took to being weaned terribly and was a regularly sick (background: reflux and cmpi). Additionally, she would reject finger food and anything that was not pureed. Her water intake was diabolical and at times I had to use a syringe or spoon feed her.

Today she is 10 months old and in the last two weeks she has made huge progress with her food and I am thrilled. She has textured food with lumps and last month she was still on purees! 5 weeks ago she started drinking a 6 oz bottle of milk at 11pm. You see, I never stopped offering the milk but I stopped pressing her. As soon as she indicated she didn't want it I left it (cue much wastage!). She drinks plenty water. What I am getting at is that I had so much anxiety over the fact that my daughter wasn't getting any milk other than the few oz I could put in her morning porridge or baby rice and I really need not have worried as much as I did. She is a strong baby, a bit on the light side but having only 4-5 oz of milk added to her food, a daily sugar free rusk (17% calcium intake I believe) along with soya yoghurt I don't think did her any harm whatsoever. I understand that guidelines are there to support you and your baby but for me I was left feeling depressed and inadequate. Dont worry too much. Give your baby everything he or she likes, keep offering milk, don't worry about moving along the older stages of weaning as your baby will let you know when he/she is ready. Yes there are some 6-7 month old babies that are eating all sorts and I remember feeling like **it when I would go to baby groups and see babies munching on carrot sticks and cadbury mini rolls. Don't worry too much. My friend's husband was born with a cleft lip and spent the first three years of his life living on pureed bananas and porridge and he's as strong as an ox!
