Experiences with vomiting whilst weaning?

DS is 6 months old this week and we started him on some soft steamed sticks of courgette which he was merrily grabbing off my plate and gnawing on. He had a bit of a cough at one point, seemed to be having trouble breathing and vomited up quite a lot of clear liquid with courgette bits in it.
DH was properly freaked out, so we stopped (though DS was unphased and carried on grabbing at the sticks! Grin). Now we don't know how to proceed... I don't want to purée because I don't think he needs it and it's a faff, but DH isn't comfortable with him having finger foods.
Thoughts? Are we overreacting to a bit of vom?

That happened a LOT at the start with my dd. she was a refluxer and EVERTYTIME she gagged, she puked!!!
I just got used to it and it certainly didn't phase her. Keep going and don't show your DS that you're panicking as that will unsettle him. I just used to laugh, even though I'd be thinking of the mess I had to clear up in the aftermath!!!!

That's reassuring! Thanks Smile

Normal, make sure he's breathe Ok, try to look like you don't care, carry on regardless. Their gag reflex moves back gradually and he'll quickly learn about moving the food safely round his mouth.

yeah its gag reflex. We started weaning 3 weeks ago, my ds has done this once but not nearly so much gagging now hes got the hang of chewing, kind of.
