Advise & tips for stopping breastfeeding my 16 month old

Hopefully I've posted this in the right place....

I have an almost 16 month old who is the first child I have bf, however I've just found out I'm pregnant, so I need to stop....

I don't think he feeds because he's hungry, it's purely a comforter for him.

Still wakes 4/5 times a night, but after afew sucks he's pretty much asleep again....
I would continue feeding, but I really don't fancy him fighting a new born for boob :-/

Feel horribly guilty about stopping so any advise or tips how to do it with least upset would be fab :-)

I weaned DS of night feeds at around 13 months. To start with, we did a cut off point of 11pm for feeds (i.e. I would feed him until that time), after which DH comforted him, then moved to bedtime feed only once he got used to that. It took a while but we got there. Although it also resulted in us moving him from his cot into a proper bed as it was so much easier to comfort him. Like you I felt it was a comfort thing. DS was doing exactly the same thing.
Now I am getting rid of his bedtime feed, I have been reducing it by 2 minutes every 2 days. I was prepared to switch every 3 days if he got upset but he hasn't. I tell him what I'm doing e.g. 'other boob now' and 'time for our cuddle now'. It's going fine (he's nearly 18 months).
Good luck. I felt/ feel horribly guilty too but he doesn't need it as much as I need the freedom to go out before a bottle-refusing toddler goes to bed.

You might be best asking for this to be transferred onto infant feeding. On mn weaning means the introduction of complimentar? foods rather than stopping bfing
