Constipated first few weeks of solids

Hi all apologies for TMI in this post!

My little girl (7 months) is pretty much finger foods only and is ebf. Her poo in the last few days has become very solid and she is straining quite a lot when she does one.

I am worried she is constipated and looking for some tricks to get her bowels moving once more.

She will typically have 5-6 big milk feeds a day. Plus is having 3 solids sessions a day.

Breaskfast is something like toast, crumpet, fruit - mainly pear or mango,

Lunch/Dinners is something from :- brocolli, baby corn, carrot sticks, sweet potato sticks, potato sticks, avocado mashed up (the only thing she will take from a spoon) and sometimes toast, pitta, eggy bread along with the veg. (obviously not all of the above at one sitting but these are the things she has been eating)

I am still at the trying out stage - bananas are not a hit which seems to one of the biggest causes of constipation.

Water is hit and miss but is offered frequently at every meal and she will take some but not a lot.

It is only really the second week of proper solids as we battled with purees for a while before changing tactics.

Does anyone have any suggestions to get things moving for her?

My failsafe for this was simmering some dried apricots and prunes in orange juice, then blending. The resulting purée is very rich so I then used a dessert spoon of it in some yogurt. If your DD won't take it from a spoon, you could just give her some soft apricots and prunes? Aldi do some in the baking section.

Oh, and I found with mine it passes in a few weeks. Think it's just them getting used to eating.

Thank you - apart from blended avocado, purees/spoons are a bit of a challenge - but will give it a try. She is not keen on yoghurt yet - keep trying but get maybe half a spoon in.

I am sure it is just her system getting used to it but she looks quite uncomfortable =(

I'd cut out a meal- she doesn't need three meals at this stage. That might help.

My 7 month old is on 2 small meals a day. She had a phase like this - she took to meat/dairy well and ate round the veg!! So it might be quantity?

I buy Ellas fruit pouches and give her some with breakfast if she hasn't gone a while or seems uncomfortable.
I also offer the water cup a lot.
This usually shifts it within 12 hr! Grin
