Hi,

My son is still drinking milk out of a bottle at 16 months old. He has a bottle full before his nap and also before bed. I've tried desperately to get him to drink out of a beaker (I've tried 5 different makes of cups/beakers) I've also gone cold turkey on the bottles , but he just didn't drink any milk for a few days. Am I pushing to hard ? Will he give them up in his own time? Any suggestions/advice would be appreciated xx

At a similar age, DS was having two bottles a day. I switched the morning one to a cup but kept the bedtime one in a bottle. He refused to drink the morning one from a cup so I gave up offering it after a while but still gave the evening one in a bottle so he had some milk each day. I couldn't get too worried about one bottle per day with a teeth clean after! I think the main concern with bottles, hence the advice to ditch them, is when the child is having lots of milk and juice from it so it's in their mouth loads with the liquid regularly swishing around their teeth.

When DS was older and happily drinking out of a normal cup, he was happy to give up the bottle.
