Ds is 8m and has been doing great going from smooth to lumpy purees. However, he will not eat pasta/rice/spaghetti that I cook and give to him (sweet and sour/spag bol etc) but will eat risotto and pasta at nursery and pasta and ricey dishes that are jarred.

He just takes a few spoonfulls, coughs, gags a bit then point blank refuses. We are going to Gran canaria in 8 weeks and ideally I would like him to be able to have what we have when over there (mashed up of course) instead of carting millions of jars.

Any helpful suggestions?

8 weeks is a huge amount of time! Assuming you started weaning around six months, it's the same amount of time he's been trying solids all over again. So, in that time he's gone from only having milk to trying pasta and rice, imagine what he can do in another 8 weeks!
By 10 months my ds would happily munch toast, chicken, sausages, fish, wedges - just about anything really! Just keep offering a good range of things and I'm sure you'll be fine

Ps, a 10 month old won't generally need things mashed up. He should be just fine munching on handfuls of your food

Thanks curls Im just concerned and worried that he will go from having a decent size lunch to just munching bits and his calorie intake may be lower? is this silly?

He happily eats toast, rice cakes and lots of other bits and bobs with his hands but has purees at mealtimes so I know he getting enough food.

Well he's still getting the majority of his calories and nutrition from milk, food is just for exploring and trying, so don't worry too much about him having a bit less.
Also, I know you can order formula to collect from boots airside at the airport so you can take enough for your trip, I wonder if you can do the same with Ellas pouches? Then you'd have an easy back up. My son is 11months and for the last few weeks will take a pouch and suck it all out by himself, so no messing

Please don't worry - there are babies all over the world, they all manage to eat. Grin

I wouldn't worry. At 10 months you shouldn't need to purée or mash anything. So in gran canaria for example he should be able to just eat paella fine as it is. He will be having milk anyway so a week of banana/ watermelon/ yogurt/ bread won't harm him either
