How much water does you baby drink?

Ds1 is 10 months. Eats well. We are down to 2 big breast feeds a day- first thing in the morning and before bed. Occasionally he has some breast milk in between, but not always. I offer him water with every meal and mid morning / mid afternoon, but he never drinks much - perhaps 20ml each time - max 100 ml over the day. We go through 3-5 nappies in a 24 hour period, never full to bursting. It doesn't seem like he drinks much, but I guess gets fluid from porridge, soup etc too. But he has just crawled over to me and grabbed my glass of diluting juice, so I put a little in his cup, diluted it right down and let him sip it from the edge, lid off... He took 60 mls! This is just because it was a bit sweet isn't it? I'm now worried he's been incredibly thirsty all this time and struggling to drink for a sippy cup. How much do/ did your Dc drink at this age ?

My DD is 13 months and doesn't drink anything but her two bottles of milk, so he's already doing a lot better than her! I've even tried giving her a taste of juice but she wouldn't have it. I've tried every bloody beaker/cup/bottle available but nothing. I think it's more that than the actual water, as she'll let me brush her teeth and I used to just do that with water before we moved on to toothpaste. A bit worrying, now that we're coming to the Summer. Last year she was at least having loads of milk so was drinking, but this year... Aaahh!

But yes, your DS probably did enjoy the sweeter flavour! Keep trying, it's all you can do! Just keep an eye out for signs of dehydration as the weather gets warmer, obviously.

Mine has never drank much but we've just realised that she drinks much more from a normal cup than a sippy cup. She will sit and drink an an entire beaker of water whereas in a sippy cup she just pours it on the floor! The problem is she now wants to drink anything I'm drinking!

Thanks folks. That's reassuring

DS is now 13 months and is only really now getting a decent amount of water down him. Used to be similar to yours, about 20 mls or so, but now he'll get though a couple of sippy cups worth in a day.

mine (14 mths) never used to drink much from sippy cups either. I bought one of www.nuby-uk.com/view-product?path=66_92&product_id=1072these at about 10/11 mths and the difference was amazing. she drank loads from it. From watching her drink from it it seems to be a similar action to bf (tongue comes over bottom lip a bit)
