Can I give my 7 and a 1/2month old normal porridge made up with his formula milk for breakfast? I thought it would be better than jar porridge and stuff

Yes but you can also use full fat cows milk instead of mixing up formula, much easier Smile

We used ready brek as it was so much cheaper than the ones aimed at babies. You can add things like berries or chopped banana to for variety.

porridge, ready brek and weetabix are all good breakfasts for that age

I thought babies couldn't have cows milk until they're 12 months? I thought about mixing his formula in cos his milk intake has gone down since he's been on 3 meals a day so thought it would be a good way to get more milk in to him as well Smile

Cows milk is fine in cooking and with cereals from 6 months, just not as a main drink ie in a bottle instead of formula. However if you want to use formula, that's fine too.

Between 6 and 12 months he should be having a mini,um of 20floz a day. Mis this roughly what's he's having?

WhingeyMinge · 26/03/2015 15:23

Oh that's good then, he has 3 9oz bottles of formula (so 27oz) and one 7oz bottle of baby juice as he won't drink water and 3 meals a day x

Plenty of formula there then, just don't cut it below 20floz before he's one. You might want to start to introduce snacks when he's nearer one to Smile

He already has finger foods in between and is always eyeing up our food when we have dinner so always gets some of ours too, he's a good eater lol!!

I use normal porridge for my 7month then add some pureed fruit to give it abit of healthy flavour. She loves it and saves buying baby porridge. I mix with formula milk tho because my baby isnt good at taking bottles so gets some more milj down her.

You can also give porridge made with normal oats if it's well cooked (more of a faff than ready brek but you can play with the texture and make finger food porridge "fingers").

I just always gave DS1 regular porridge. Over cooked it a bit so was quite cement like and he used to eat it by the fistful. I told him today (he's 2.8yo) that I used to have to clean porridge out of his ears, hair, nose, eyes.... He laughed and said, "that's not true mummy!"

I make DS porridge from plain porridge oats. Add a handful of frozen fruit at the end so they get defrosted and cools it all down a bit. Super frugal vs branded stuff and "baby" labels. Made it with whole milk from about 8 months when he was happy with the texture. Before that he had weetabix with whole milk. Much smoother texture so easier to eat. I'm hoping all this whole milk will make it easier to get him off formula now he's 1.
