10.5 month old being sick whenever he eats finger foods

We started weaning DS2 at 6 months. Purees go down fine as do baby cereals, yoghurts etc. he eats a lot less than DS1 did and its quite painstaking getting it down him (he wont let the spoon into his mouth and just sucks food off the spoon).

However, he cannot eat finger food without throwing up. We ve been trying for weeks now. We ve tried mashed banana, steamed pear, bread, baby biscuits, oatcakes...

Sometimes he nibbles a bit of oatcake fine but then the next bit he gags and throws up everything SadAngry

Any advice?

How thick are the purees and cereal he is having, I'm wondering are they sliding down like milk rather than him activley chewing and swallowing them.

Can he cope with mash, or weetabix type consistencys?

They re smooth and dont need chewing but are a lot thicker than milk.

We tried baby muesli but he gagged and threw up

Do you think it would be worth trying giving the food in different places in the house, or as part of a game with his brother, maybe with sticking fingers into things for painting with them and tasting if they want to, just to try and get him use to the idea that food tastes nice and does not always end in him being sick.

Maybe if that works you could intro small bits of very soft finger foods into the games as well.
