refusing milk for solids

Hello,
I am weaning my 8 month old and she has started to reduce nursing.

I give her porridge with 100mLs of formula at 8:30 every morning. She will not take formula from a bottle at any other time of day unless very hungry.

She has lunch at 1 and dinner at 5

In bed at 7.

I nurse her to sleep at night, and nurse her in night if she wakes. I always give her a big nursing at 5am.

My question is this - I've read that solids should not substitute milk, but she refuses breastfeeding and bottles in the day. She will probably nurse 2 times, before bed and at 5am.

What should I do?. I am so worried she's not getting the right nutrients.

Surely she's not getting enough!?

Thanks for your help!

Could you cut down the amount of times you offer food, so say you offer a bf or bottle at 8.30 instead of the porridge? If not, could you reduce her portions? Just for info, a portion should be roughly the size of her palm Smile

Another thing to try is offering the solids roughly an hour after a milk feed or giving her a feed as she wakes from a nap and is sleepy, even offer a bf or bottle if you have a bath together might encourage her to feed.

It might also be worth ringing one of the Bfing helplines and talking to a BFC about your concerns. She should be able to reassure you on the quantities your dd is taking.

The current nhs guidelines are to offer solids just once or twice a day at 7 months. Is that something that could work for you?
