What should my 1 year olds eating habits be

Will my LO definitely be off 5 bottles of milk a day by one year old and three solid meals? Is this with snacks inbetween?

OP, there are so many variables here. I'd say that projected solids and milk consumption at 12months will depend on factors such as whether your baby is bf or ff, whether they use bottles or cups, whether you've done BLW (and how they've taken to it) or spoonfed, finger foods or purees, how active they are during the day etc.

Is there a particular reason you're trying to get an idea of what your baby will be consuming then?

FWIW, at 12 mths we were having three meals a day with the odd snack, but sometimes very little would actually get consumed. He bf morning and evening, and maybe once or twice during the day. He drank very little cows milk or water but had porridge and cereal, and a lot of yoghurt and fresh fruit. He mainly fed himself (we did BLW), using fingers and a fork or spoon.

DD really took to BLW and could eat a whole meal with her hands at 12 months (yoghurt on loaded spoons). It wasn't until 14 months or so that she was reliable with a spoon herself. Now at almost 18 months she tips the bowl to get to the edges. She can also reasonably reliably stab things with a fork. Most of what she's loaded gets into her mouth too. I would say she's a good water though and quite independent - there will be plenty better and not so good at this age.

We still use a mix of Boots weaning spoons and ikea kids cutlery.

My 12 month old mostly feeds himself but with his hands, I feed porridge/yoghurt/anything too messy though.

Yes, should have said. For bf babies the 300ml of full fat cows milk doesn't apply Smile

He's Formula fed, purées not blw and currently trying to use cups at mealtimes. Next goal is to use sippy cups rather than bottles for the formula milk. He had breakfast lunch and dinner with 5 milk feeds a day...

At 9 months he should be having some finger foods. what foods are you giving him?

JiltedJohnsJulie · 19/03/2015 22:20

Agree with comment above, at 9 months its a good idea to try some finger foods, even if you want to continue with the purees.

I did purees with DS and blw with dd, both loved cheese straws. Apparently you can freeze them but mine were always scoffed before I could get them anywhere near the freezer Smile
