Good idea to give DD spoons / sippy cup for familiarisation?

I've heard some people giving their babies plastic weaning spoons to play with / hold before starting weaning and same with sippy cups. I think the idea is to get the baby used to the spoons / cups before they start to use them in weaning; to familiarise them. Do you think this is a good idea? Did you do it? Or should you just introduce them when you do start weaning?

I give 5 month dd these as toys, they're safe to hold and chew. Don't know if it teaches her anything but she loves banging and chewing plastic things so I thought why not? Smile

Likewise, I've given DD weaning spoons to play with and she loves using them as teethers - don't see any harm and she does seem to now hold them 'properly' ready for feeding

Hi, yes I did this a bit. we used to put our DS in his high chair whilst we ate dinner before he was weaned and I gave him spoons and cup to play with. I think it really helped as when it came to weaning, he no longer played with the spoons or cup as they weren't new to him. Wish I had done the same with his rubbery roll up bib as he won't eat much when wearing it as he just wants to play/eat it!
