One year old feeding woes

My one year old dd will eat breakfast fine (spoonfed 1/2 weetabix, banana, plus chews on toast). But I'm finding lunch and dinner still really difficult in terms of getting her to eat anything other than breadsticks and yogurt (spoon fed the latter).

I've been offering her a varied diet of homemade and ready-made meals, still mushy in consistency and hopefully we've moved on from purees (although she still has Ella's pouches on occasions). She seems to hate the spoon at these meals and clamps shut!

I offer her finger foods at every mealtime but she clearly doesn't enjoy mealtimes as she cries and flaps her arms about, but I try to keep to 30minutes maximum. I also try and eat the finger foods with her.

She is having 3 bottles a day (4oz before breakfast, 5oz-7oz after lunch and 5-7oz before bed).

Do I stop offering her the two things she loves? My only hesitation in doing this is that she is still very little for her age, as she was prem by nearly 6 weeks. I think she is around 15pds now but gaining weight steadily. Is some food is better than nothing...

Does anyone have any advice please?

A very frustrated mummy!

Could it be worth trying offering her food as it comes rather than mashed. Give her a small plate of what you're having and let her try and feed herself with her hands and a spoon? You could put a couple of breadsticks on the plate as well each meal so there is something she will eat. Then decide which meal you're going to give a yoghurt with, e.g. tea, and give it to her irrespective of what she's eaten for her main course.

If she's refusing the spoon so vehemently then maybe she wants to self feed instead?

I have exactly the same problem - my DD is also under the average weight and very slight, I'm trying to build her but like yours she will eat her breakfast and every other meal is a struggle :( I'm trying out lots of small meals a day and some new recipes - she likes to feed herself meat and bread but everything else is lobbed into the floor. Will let you know if o have any success!
