How do I incorporate food into baby's routine?

I started giving puréed fruit or veg last week at lunchtime and this week I'm moving on to giving food at breakfast and lunch.

At the same time I have moved baby on to mostly formula (only breastfeeding at his bedtime and any night feeds). Baby has always been fed every 3 hours, apart from at night where he has dropped the 1am feed and the 4am feed has moved to 5am. Working towards dropping / moving this feed gradually.

But in the mean time he wakes up at 7 which means his next milk feed is at 8. So when do I give him his breakfast considering by 9 he is ready for his morning nap. Admittedly I have been giving him his breakfast at 10 and lunch at 2 this week but I would like to give breakfast and lunch at more set times.

So how do I incorporate these meals into his routine? Or is it all about tastes and getting used to food at this stage? He's 24 weeks.

can you not give him a top up milk feed at 7am when he wakes and then breakfast at 8am?

Hi, my DS is 21 weeks and as yet we haven't started solids yet. However, I still wanted to comment on your milk routine in case it helped.

My HV commented a couple of weeks ago that I needed to be feeding my DS every 3 hours during the day, to ensure I can get 5 feeds into his day and that his first feed needs to be on waking. So he wakes around 7am and gets breakfast (milk) first thing. He is still feeding once in the night and this was around 1am. However, occasionally, he doesn't wake until 4 or 5 am. What we've been doing if he wakes at 5am, Is only giving him a small feed (say 4 oz) and then he has his milk at 7am as usual. Strangely, he does seem to still eat quite a bit of his 7am feed even though he only ate at 5am. I think it's more the routine.

Does this help you at all? (Apologies if it doesn't!)

Thanks for taking time to reply. He has now started sleeping through till 6.30/7 so I don't feed him till then Grin
