Cows milk as a drink for very nearly 12 month old?

My baby is 2 weeks off her first birthday, can I start giving her cows milk to drink? At the moment she is having two bus a day from me and otherwise drinking water, but by isn't working so well now because she's biting me a lot and it's really sore, and when I react to that she gets upset. I also don't seem to be producing that much milk anymore. My aim was to keep be until she was one so I'm very nearly there but I really think we've reached our end. I don't want to introduce formula at this stage but I know that cows milk as a main drink isn't advised until past their first birthday. However as we're only a couple of weeks off will it be ok for her? She eats a really good variety of solids but her weight gain has slowed a little recently. Any advice very welcome, thank you!

sounds fine as you are so close to the age of 1

Thank you! Just re-read my post and seen that my attempts to shorten breastfeeding has come out in 3 different and wrong ways?! What's that about!

I started at just after 11 months as went to a hen weekend and was a perfect time to stop bf as needed to before going back to work after a year. DD took to it well and we've had no issues.

That's good to hear, thank you very much. i really don't seem to be producing much milk now so I think bf for us has come to it's natural end!

I did it with DD at 10.5 months as we were going on a long holiday where formula was hard to find. She was fine

Was just about to post on this then saw this thread. DD 9mo is BF, when I go back to work (boo hiss!) she'll be 11mo and will be going to nursery 3 days a week. I want to continue BF when I can while she still wants to. I feel like it would be a bit of a waste of time to introduce formula for a month to then move on to cow's milk when she turns 12mo. However, I'm ususlly a stickler for following guidelines...!

It's fine. I moved my dd on to cow's milk at 11 months without a problem.

My ds was just over 10 months. I bf until 11 weeks (he had tongue tie at birth and struggled). Was much happier on formula but started to reject any sort of formula at 10 months, I gave him cows milk and he loved it! :)

I spoke to HV about 3 cows milk feeds a week when with cm. she said although official nhs guidance said 12 months, dd was already having lots of milk in cereal and no ill effects so not an issue.

I'm thinking about weaning off breastfeeding as dd is 12 months in 3 weeks and she's hungry for food almost immediately now, but I'm not sure about how much milk in a sippy I should be giving her.

Any ideas?
