those stupid bibs with the 'trough' / crumb catcher thing - is it just me?!

We have the rubbery kind by Griptight and Tommee Tippee. They're next to useless as the opening of the 'trough' bit is way to narrow so it doesn't catch most of the dropped food. Can anyone recommend others that are better please?

I know what you mean but keep onto them I use them when my lo is eating soup, beans or gravy.

Turn it inside out (back to front) to open the trough.

We use the bibs that have their 'normal' setting as the trough being sat unfolded behind, so that when you turn it inside out it forces the trough open iyswim.

This is an example of one, but ours from boots are bigger, cheaper and thinner plasticky ones. They are great.
