Finger foods. Might sound silly...

hello, we tried a stick of cold cucumber yesterday (not me, DS - 7 and a half M) which was apparently pretty good for gnawing on...
Noticed that Annabel Karmel suggested giving grapes and raisins as finger foods from 7 months on... I'm quite possibly being neurotic but I'm a bit nervy about giving DS these little bits of food in case they go down the wrong way or get caught in his gullet! any advice from those who've been there. I'm probably being a nervy chicken of a mum but would be good to hear from others

if DS a bit short on teeth, i'd leave raisins for a bit....grapes should be cut in half ...

try carrot sticks, chunkc of frozen banana , florets of steamed broccolli & cauli....fingers of cheese

i bought some little cookie cutters and used them to make intersting shapes of toast & cheese....

I've been giving my dd finger foods since the age of 7 months, and grapes are about the only thing I steer cleer of, as if they get stuck in the throat, they are too soft to cough up easily. I would break them up into very small pieces before giving them.

Annabel Karmel also suggested dried apple rings which I have had to fish out of rookiebabies mouth several times before he started choking on them. They are off the weaning list but are yummy for a mummy snack.

Dried fruits in general are hard to chew.
