had a go at the women in the baby aisle who was giving out free samples of Cow and Gate yoghurt in Morrisons today.

I walked up there to get tissues (only to discover they'd been moved) and saw her. Asked her what age they were suitable from and initially she said

"3 months I think, but let me just check".

I waited while she checked and she then said "oh no sorry it's from 4 months". I then told her that the recommended weaning age for babies was 6 months and that Cow and Gate should be ashamed of themselves actively trying to get mothers to wean early.

She didn't really respond, but I walked off wondering who on earth that mad women spouting WHO and Government Guidelines actually was. I may still wean this baby 'early' (ie from 4 months) but only if I feel they're ready (as I felt the DS's were) and definintely won't be having sugar filled yoghurts that early!

ahh but MT - I may still end up weaning no.3 earlier than the guidelines.....

I think what got me was her initial comment of "3 months" what if I had been a mother that was thinking about weaning VERY early and hadn't really took in the rest of what she said???
