Is this ok or not? Baby is veggie. I've read conflicting info about whether or not I should let her have it. Sooo confused!

We did from about 8 months

I wouldn't and in fact stayed clear of it when I was veggie on the advice of my then housemate (a pharmacist) - it's pure protein and can cause issues in your body - extra protein like that encourages skin tags etc. what about tofu?

afreshstartplease · 19/11/2014 18:43

I have heard it's a no no protein and possibly salt come to mind?

whereisvioleta · 19/11/2014 18:45

My HV told us it was fine but to check carefully re salt content. We didn't start giving it to DD until she was a year or so tho.

EmbarrassedPossessed · 19/11/2014 21:36

I didn't use it until 12 months plus, as it can be salty plus it is low fat which isn't ideal.

GinGinGin, I don't understand the point your pharmacist friend was putting across. Quorn mince has 14.5g of protein per 100g, whereas lamb mince has 17g ish. If quorn isn't good for you then surely lamb, beef etc is also bad for you?

GinGinGin · 20/11/2014 18:48

Sorry, I wasn't clear - it's not the protein per se, it's the fact that it's a man made protein that's the issue - our bodies don't necessarily know how to process it. Obviously there's always an exception to every rule and some people may be fine with it, but others not.

EmbarrassedPossessed · 20/11/2014 19:05

It's grown from a fungus isn't it, and then processed to be more meat like? Do we have the same problem with eating mushrooms? What's the connection with skin tags - that sounds fascinating?
