Weaning 6 month dd - where to start

Just that really! Got an appointment with h/v this week but would just like and idea of what to give her. This might sound silly but can she have fruit sticks, toast etc, even though she has no teeth yet?

Yes, she can have the things you mention. Their gums are very tough so she'll be able to suck and chew things despite having no teeth. Even really tough textures will be good for her to gnaw and suck as although she won't be able to eat them fully, she'll get the flavour of them.

We just gave DS some of whatever we were eating whenever he was in the mood to join us for meals.

I was worried about choking too, but I made sure I knew what to do if that happened (and I'm careful with foods that are a big choking hazard - so grapes cut in half etc). Also make sure you know the difference between gagging and choking.

I've found that when my ds tries to swallow a big chunk of food without chewing his gag reflex kicks in every time and it comes right back up again. It's fairly disgusting.

I found toast was a bit too gaggy at first, so I don't really give it much. My DD is a week off 7m and we've been going for 4/5 weeks. She loves weetabix with just a few drops of milk added - just enough to make it ever so slightly soft without breaking up. I break it into about 4 peices and let her munch on them.
She has also loved roasted sweet potato and courgette (cut into long finger shapes before roasting), banana, plum wedges, blueberries (squished a bit before handing them over), mini ricecakes with soft cheese/houmous, sticks of hard cheese (cheddar).

We had lots of gagging in the first 2 weeks but it's eased off now and I am amazed how well she's taken to it all. Enjoy it as it's all good fun (although not the nappies!!) much more so than spoon feeding.
