Weaning and dropping feeds

Posted this in breast and bottle feeding, but might be more relevant here.

DD is 7.5 months. Was EBF till weaned, milk is now still mainly BM with the occasional bottle. We're about seven weeks into weaning. We do all finger foods for breakfast and lunch with something a bit more mushy off a spoon for dinner, usually followed by fruit and yog. How much she takes varies by the day/meal, as I think is to be expected.

Until recently she was doing about six full BFs in 24 hours, plus the odd little drink here and there. She's fed on demand but very roughly a usual pattern of something like 9.30am (pre-nap, she's always refused for a good hour or two after waking), 1.30 (again, pre-nap), 4.30, 6.30 (pre-bed), 11ish and once again at some point overnight.

The mid-afternoon feed seems to be interfering with dinner a bit. So today I didn't offer it and she didn't seem terribly bothered. I suspect, though, that if I had offered she'd have taken it (did yesterday) but then she's just not hungry for dinner at 5. I tried bringing it forward and she wasn't interested. And I don't really want to make dinner any later because she starts to get tired.

So, long-winded way of saying is dropping a feed about right at this point? Even if kind of instigated by me not her? Is three feeds a day (plus the two at night) ok at this stage? What are other 7-8mth olds doing?
