Eczema and weaning, wait until 6mths?

Hello, my little boy will be 5 months old next Thursday and at the mo is still exclusively bf but has been diagnosed with eczema. I am considering weaning him but have had conflicting advice.
My health visitor is of the opinion that 6mths is too late and that there is a window of opportunity between 4-6mths where they will accept new tastes and more variety but most books, websites etc advise not to start weaning until they are 6mths. I am a bit confused with it all. He has started sleeping thought the night for a couple of weeks now and hasn?t started waking with hunger yet and isn't a massively hungry baby but he has only put on 4oz in the last 3 wks.
I am concerned about his eczema and weaning and wondered if anyone had any advice?
Thanks, Hannah

So, your HV thinks she knows better than the World Health Organisation who say that babies should be exclusivelty breastfed for 6 months??

Ignore her.

Yeah, ignore her. I waited to 6 months and she happily eats everything from broccoli, carrots, sweet potato, pumpkin, cauliflower, beets, bananas etc etc etc. I think your HV needs a new job.

I also think it's especially important to wait if your baby has eczema which can be allergy related. My dd (exclusively bf) started having eczema at 3.5 months. I cut out dairy and it went away. She's now on solids (and bf) but I'm going really slow in terms of adding new foods. That said, she will eat anything I offer.

Ignore your health visitor. Babies do just fine weaned at 6 months.
