allergies, cow's milk and yoghurt

Hi. my dd is 6 months. she's on 2 solid meals a day. I'm thinking of introducing breakfast and have read that I could start with yoghurt. However, I'm not planning to start cow's milk for some time to reduce the risk of allergies. Apologies if this sounds stupid, but should I therefore delay the introduction of cow's milk yoghurt?

I would say that yes, you should delay it if you are delaying the introduction of cow's milk.

A child allergic to cow's milk would react to yoghurt. I think hard cheeses are a slightly more processed form, and some people allergic to milk CAN have cheese, but I dont think that is the case with yog. I may be wrong!

You could try with goats first. The protein is different, more similar to breast milk protein, and easier to digest - I am led to believe. DS has a problem with cows but not goats, so I would try this first. Just make sure that you don't introduce anything new for a few days to see if there is a reaction or not.

my ds is allergic to both goat's and cow's milk. If your dd is the allergic type, she may easily have a problem with goat's milk.

If there's a history of allergies in your family, I wouldn't introduce any form of animal milk or products made from it (inc milk/whey powder in e.g. biscuits) until 12 months.

Otoh, that's what I did with ds and he still turned out to hav e a milk allergy - it's no guarantee of avoiding it, but I suppose may mean it's less severe if/when it happens.

That is true CarolinaMoon. My DS can't have cows but ok with goats. DD1 does not seem to have an allergy at all. DD2 not able to tolerate cows or goats.
I personally feel that all our food is so processed now. The meat we eat comes from animals given processed food to eat; you just can't win. My sister is coeliac and finds that she can't eat cheese that is made in winter possibly because of what the animals are fed on over this time. How wierd is that?!
